Book Review: Happiness Is A State Of Mind – Gyalwang Drukpa

Whilst on my honeymoon in Phuket, Thailand, I levitated towards the positive energies of the Thai people, their becoming nature, simple living and high regard for every living thing around them. I understood that this approach to life, origins from their beliefs and religion – Buddhism. When people lead and influence you by example of their mannerisms, that’s powerful. So naturally at the Phuket International Airport on my way back home to South Africa I purchased “Happiness Is A State Of Mind” by Gyalwang Drukpa, a self – help non-fiction book, centered around creating a powerful mindset for ultimate happiness in your life. The urge to capture the uplifting and exhilarating feeling surrounding me from the Thai people eased when I came across this book, I felt as if I could.Processed with VSCO with c4 preset

Personally, I’m an anxious person, who aspires to ridiculous expectations I set upon myself, which results in soaring anxiety levels. However, whilst reading this book, it set my mind at ease and I realized a healthier state of mind for myself. This book is the reason why I decided this 2018 not to make any New Year’s resolutions, but rather be present in every moment and have positive energies always.
And is it working for me?
Well, surprisingly when you don’t make lists of “things” to do for yourself you actually get more done, I believe you can only understand the context of this once you read Happiness Is A State Of Mind.

Overall the book has a few grammatical errors, however, the message within the two hundred and fifty three pages of this book is entirely powerful and absolutely needed in today’s fast paced world, that you need to acquire time to slow down and embrace the message from his holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, regardless of what religion you may follow.

This book in no way isolated any religion or emphasizes on religion, on the contrary, it focuses on the essence of happiness in this lifetime on a platform relatable to all individuals.

An empowering and relaxing book, which you can complete in one sitting and certainly within a week, Happiness Is A State Of Mind is an essential genre to read at the beginning of this new year, to get a clear perspective and mindset for the year ahead, but do take the time to reflect on each prompt at the end of each chapter.
