As a weekly series, beginning today, I will be blogging about a different foundation, as requested and selected by my readers.
Today’s blog post is everything you need to know about the MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF15 Foundation.
MAC makeup products are the “go-to” for most professional makeup artists and are always a popular choice. Makeup Art Cosmetics (MAC) is the first makeup brand I was introduced to when I was seventeen and I always go back to this particular foundation – the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation – after experimenting with others.
- Provides medium coverage that is buildable
- A satin feel finish that isn’t oily
The MAC studio foundation is a water – based foundation and therefore needs to be used with a water-based primer. The Smashbox photo finish primer water, which is both a primer and setting spray is my staple primer.
To set my studio fix foundation, I use the Kryolan translucent powder, which is most effective for my combination skin type.
This formula is on the top-rated foundations, as it’s non-comedogenic – meaning that it does not have ingredients that can cause clogged pores resulting in breakouts.
For me, this foundation is average wearing and lasts up to five hours before it becomes oily, however, when oily a slight touch-up is required as a result the product does not build up on your skin, neither does it shift or move throughout the day, therefore it always looks fresh.
The studio fix fluid SPF15 glides easily on your skin, and is not a heavy, thick product, however, a concealer is needed for effective coverage.
As a plus, this foundation has 53 shades to choose from and does not oxidize or accentuate wrinkles.
For my yellow undertone – NC25 is the perfect match.
I love that this foundation also has an SPF as I still haven’t found a sunblock for my face that I feel comfortable wearing, as most sunblock’s are greasy or too thick.
MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF15 retails for R485 – 00

It’s Essential to use a water-based primer and not a silicone-based primer with this type of foundation, as using the incorrect primer will result in the foundation caking.
- 5 hours wear
- Dewy finish
- MAC Studio Fix Foundation shades are available in 53 options
- Does not oxidize
- Easy to blend
- Does not cake
- Non – comedogenic
- Has an SPF
- Not full coverage
- MAC cosmetics are tested on animals in some countries due to that country’s law – for example China, therefore this brand is not cruelty free as it’s website suggests.
- Not budget friendly
I have found the perfect dupe for the MAC Studio Fix Liquid Foundation, which I use on the daily, due to MAC not being budget friendly and I can use up to two bottles in a month! This dupe will be added to my makeup foundation reviews.
However, the color of NC25 suits my skin more than most foundations and illuminates a healthy glow – so this foundation is my “go-to” for special events.
I especially love this formula, as it’s non-comedogenic, additionally, it’s a perfect shade match for my yellow undertone. Many cosmetic brands don’t have colours that suit my skin tone, especially in South Africa where not all shades are available –thank goodness MAC makes all shades available here.
