Today’s blog post is everything you need to know about my first drugstore foundation review – the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Liquid Foundation – a popular, lightweight foundation that is for everyday use.
The Maybelline Matte and Poreless foundation came as highly recommended by a multitude of beauty enthusiasts, and ranks as the best Maybelline foundation on Pinterest, so naturally I wanted in!
Recently, Clicks had a 3 for 1 sale on Maybelline products, so I picked this up and other Maybelline favorites.
Here is my honest Maybelline Fit Me Foundation review:
- Provides light coverage for a natural finish
- Mattifiesand suited for long wear
- Refines pores
This formula is non – comedogenic – meaning that it does not have ingredients that can cause clogged pores resulting in breakouts.
Additionally, the formula includes silica, therefore you may only apply this over a silicone primer, however, unlike various silicone-based foundations, it feels lightweight.
My skin matched best to shade 220, natural beige from the fit foundation range – however, it was difficult to find a shade that best suited my yellow undertone as all the shades that may suit my color are of a brown undertone – thus making my skin seem dull.
To brighten up my complexion, I paired this matte and poreless foundation with the Kryolan “yellow” powder in TL4 – you could also use a color corrector – but I don’t have time for this.
There are 12 Maybelline Fit Me Foundation shades available in this foundation range in South Africa, so not a variety to choose from.
The formula for the Fit Me Poreless Foundation is effortless to apply and feels as if there’s nothing on your skin, therefore breathable, consequently, for extra coverage you will need quite a bit of product and if this is your main concern – this is not the foundation for you as this formula does not provide full coverage.
The overall appearance is natural and your freckles or pigmentation will still be visible.
What heightened my appeal to this product is that my pores and wrinkles appeared refined.
Concealers and contouring creams are much thicker compared to the liquid foundation– therefore making it difficult to blend with this formula – so I would opt for powder contouring rather.
My face began to shine in areas after about six hours of application and the Fit Me Liquid Foundation did not move or shift moreover, touch ups did not cause a build up of the makeup or caking effect, making it perfect for oily skin.

A silicone-based primer and not a water-based primer is suited with this Foundation, as using the incorrect primer will result in the foundation caking and moving.
My recommendation is the Maybelline New Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer – this is my “go-to” silicone primer.
- Long wear foundation
- Budget friendly
- Non – comedogenic
- No flashback
- Not full coverage
- Does oxidize
- No SPF
- Dull for yellow undertones
- No variety of shades
- Maybelline New York is not cruelty free
It’s seldom that I reveal my freckles, so ultimately this foundation is not for me, since it does not have full coverage.
The natural feel of the foundation is addictive, but it’s unfortunate that there isn’t a colour that suits my skin tone as it oxidizes quite quickly, on my skin.
Should you find your perfect shade, and don’t require coverage but rather a light, even skin tone, then this is a perfect formulation for “on-the-go” makeup, though it’s definitely not the type of foundation one would use for a night out.
