The Durban July, fashion and style go hand in hand in creating the ultimate South African event, which ignites Durban tourism yearly. Putting together Durban July outfits invloves meticulous planning for many and incorporates the latest fashion trends, creativity and daring imagination.
For me, Durban July attire needs to be comfortable, as it’s a long day and of course, whimsical to suit the occasion.
Here is my fashion lookbook for the Vodacom Durban July 2019:
I chose to wear a long sleeved, shoulder padded metallic silver dress.
Although it’s winter in Durban, it’s never too cold and the long sleeves were perfect to avoid any chilly breeze, if any.
Shoes need to be practical for July day being a full day affair, furthermore to get anywhere within the racecourse always involves long walks on grass, so stilettos are not an option. This year I opted for metallic grey and silver block heels with a mermaid finish.
Pearls are all the fashion trend right now and this pearl bag from Zara was the perfect handbag and easy to carry around.
I matched my pearl bag with this stylish pearl hair clip.
If anything, I suggest a keratin smoothing hair masque as an overnight treatment when in Durban – due to the humidity my hair didn’t stay in place for the full day.
No outfit is complete without accessories. I added a layered neckpiece and multiple rings, all from Lovisa to glam my outfit.
I used the limited edition Game of Thrones palette from Urban Decay to create my eyeshadow look.
Highlighter and blush: Tarte Cosmetics Pro Glow 3 face palette
Lips: Mac Cosmetics “Tropic Tonic” lipstick and Aladdin limited edition lipgloss in “Jewels on Jewels”
Glamour Girlz ZA did this masterpiece of acrylic nail art for the occasion.
Even though this year, the Durban July main race was disappointing as most were looking forward to watching Hawwaam spectacle us all, the fashion never disappoints with an array of flair that added to the event.
I hope my style lookbook gives you some inspiration for your next horseracing event or for dresses to wear to the Durban July.
