Next in order for my weekly series of drugstore brand reviews is all the information you require about LA Girl Cosmetics, exclusively available at DisChem in South Africa.
An innovative brand, LA Girl Cosmetics offers a colourful range of makeup products for both novice makeup artists and us, regular people who love playing with makeup artistry; moreover, this affordable brand has been around since 1985, is US based, and cruelty free.
The signature product from LA Girl Cosmetics on everyone’s beauty radar is without doubt the LA Girl Cosmetics Pro concealer that is currently the holy grail of concealers and with its multifunctional usability, can also effectively be used for contouring.
My makeup kit includes the LA Girl Cosmetics yellow corrector, natural and chestnut LA Girl Cosmetics concealer for contouring: a little product allows for a natural finish and I recommend buildable application for that chiseled contoured effect.
Currently retails for R62 – 00
At the forefront of coverage and LA Girl liquid makeup are the LA Girl Cosmetics foundation range with the pro coverage and LA Girl Cosmetics pro matte foundation being the ultimate everyday foundations for many.
Personally, I love the LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Coverage foundation for everyday use: it has a suitable colour match and a perfect finish for my skin, including full coverage.
In addition to LA Girl makeup prices being affordable, LA Girl Cosmetics is also a cruelty free brand.
LA Girl Cosmetics captures the essence of makeup artistry and is perfect if:
- You love playing with colour – they even have a purple blush that I’m eager to get my hands on
- On a budget,
- Enjoy contouring – their pro concealers are the best to contour with
- Wear makeup everyday – their range is affordable, suitable for everyday wear and works!
The packaging of the foundations, concealers, palettes and strobing powders are particularly attractive for a drugstore brand and sits neat and pretty on vanities.

Always expanding my drugstore makeup collection, here is my list of the best of LA Girl Cosmetics:
- Strobe Lite Strobing Powder R149 – 00
Not knowing how to use highlighter when it first appeared as a trend, I put LA Girl Cosmetics Strobe Light Powder to the test and it was the perfect place to begin my experimentation. This formula isn’t chalky and allowed me to perfect the highlighter application.
- Pro Coverage Foundation R175 – 00
Having mentioned the LA cosmetics foundation above, I cannot get enough of how well the Pro coverage foundation works.
- LA Girl Pro Compact Powder
A makeup artist used the LA Girl face powder on me on set recently and I was amazed at the perfect colour match, it didn’t oxidize, neither did I require a touch up (given that studio lights are extremely bright and create heat, I was impressed that I didn’t get oily)
LA Girl face or compact powder shades suit all skin types and there are about 15 to choose from.
- Varied range of products
- LA Girl makeup is cruelty free
- I found that the eye shadow pallets did irritate my eyes and the texture quite chalky
- Matt lippies felt tacky, although it has full coverage.
If you love makeup – there’s no doubt that you need to add these selections to your LA Girl makeup set. I love trying out makeup that I’m not too familiar with first with a drugstore brand like LA girl, before I invest in high-end makeup.
