Whilst the use of face masks is now mandatory for Covid – 19 prevention, unfortunately due to long hours of wearing masks at the work place which results in sweat build up and friction of the skin – the latest term during this pandemic has contrived – the much undesirable “Maskne”.
Maskne (medical term acne mechanica) looks like clusters of tiny pimples typically around the nose, mouth and on the chin area and is also referred to as mask acne. Even though Maskne may be the new acne, this skin condition is preventable and treatable.
Cetaphil sent me a press drop that serves as a Maskne kit consisting of some of my best Cetaphil products to help with Maskne.
Here are a few simple, yet effective ways to assist with the treatment for Maskne:
- Cloth Face Mask
Opt for a breathable face mask – with cloth being the preferred option. Ensure you have a few cloth face masks and wash them regularly, or preferably after every use; as masks are prone to collect bacteria, dirt and oils which will cause breakouts.
- Be Gentle With Your Skin
If you have Maskne, your skin is already irritated, additionally it’s winter and excessively cleansing your skin is not the solution to prevent Maskne – this will very likely aggravate your skin further. Choose an effective gentle cleanser such as the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which is a cult beauty product so much so that a bottle of this cleanser sells every minute!
- Create A Skin Barrier
Acne or breakout prone skin benefits and diminishes when the skin is healthy, moisturized and hydrated. This is achieved by creating a barrier using a moisturizer. The Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion with Hyaluronic Acid provides a lightweight, oil – free Maskne remedy for protecting skin.
You Maskne skincare routine is not complete without sunblock, even though your face is covered, harmful sun rays can still damage your skin through fabric. Always use a non – comedogenic SPF such as the Cetaphil Sun SPF 50+ Lotion.
- Avoid Makeup
As using a face mask increases the amount of sweat and oil build up – it’s best to skip makeup, especially around the nose, mouth and chin area. Rather focus on your eyes and create beautiful eyeshadow looks.
The Cetaphil range is formulated with a focus on skin irritation and therefore is a highly recommended brand for Maskne treatment and prevention. Adopt this skin care routine with Cetaphil to avoid and prevent Maskne for healthy looking skin all year round. Cetaphil range of products are available at DisChem, Clicks and selected pharmacies online and in – store.
Remember to stay safe during Covid – 19 and opt to shop your Cetaphil products online:
