Foundation Review: MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15

MAC Cosmetics, although not as popular as in the early 90’s is still the OG and set the standard for makeup brands. In this review I discuss the formula, coverage, longevity, shade range, and overall performance of this popular foundation. Whether you’re a makeup enthusiast or someone looking for a reliable everyday foundation, keep reading to discover if MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is worth your investment.
Packaging:
The packaging of the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15 is sleek and high-quality. It comes in a sturdy glass bottle with a matte black cap. A pump dispenser is available to purchase separately for this bottle, which makes it easy to dispense the right amount of foundation without any mess or wastage for R150 – 00. Overall, the packaging is elegant and practical, making it convenient to use and travel with.
Texture:
The MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15 is described as a lightweight, liquid formula that is easy to blend into the skin, however I find that it is a thick formula with a matte finish suited to oily skin types as it dries down a bit blotchy on my skin if my skin is dry. It offers a medium to full coverage. The inclusion of SPF 15 adds an extra layer of sun protection, making it suitable for everyday use. It’s important to still wear a higher SPF under your makeup as this SPF is not enough to protect your skin.
Coverage:
When it comes to coverage, the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation doesn’t disappoint. It effectively covers blemishes, redness, and uneven skin tone. You can build up the coverage to your desired level.
Longevity:
One of the standout features of this foundation is its impressive longevity. Once applied, it stays put throughout the day, even in humid weather conditions. You won’t have to worry about constant touch-ups or your foundation fading away by midday. It wears as a fresh, matte to natural finish on my skin that lasts from morning until night.
Shade Range:
MAC is renowned for its extensive shade range, and the Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15 is no exception. With over 40 shades to choose from, you are likely to find the perfect match for your skin tone. The shades are categorized according to undertones (cool, neutral, warm), ensuring a seamless blend with your natural complexion. My shade match is NC30
Performance:
In terms of performance, the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation provides an even application however texture is still visible like pores, so a flawless complexion is not achieved for me. The foundation is also buildable, allowing you to customize the level of coverage you desire. Additionally, it controls oil and shine, making it suitable for oily and combination skin types. I suggest using an oil primer or a more moisturizing primer for dry or mature skin types.
It retails for R760 – 00 which is on the pricier side of foundations but does not live up to the expectation of this price tag.
The MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15 is a favorite among makeup lovers around the world and this foundation is worth considering. However, this is not my favourite foundation formulation and personally not a foundation I repurchase as I still feel the formula is outdated even though it has been revamped. There are many other high-end foundations and drugstore foundations that outperform this MAC foundation in my opinion. My overall rating for this foundation is 6/10.
Please note that individual experiences may vary, and it’s always recommended to try a sample or consult with a makeup professional to find your perfect match. If you still not sure about the MAC Studio Fix Foundation, there are now miniature versions available at half the price which still goes a long way as you require a little product for a full face of medium coverage.
